Meet Our Counselor

Ms. Makayla Preskitt
I’m so happy to serve as your School Counselor! I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Education from Oklahoma State University and later earned my Master’s degree in School Counseling. Before becoming a counselor, I spent six years in the classroom as a teacher, and I am now in my third year as a school counselor.
One of my favorite parts of my role is building relationships with students and helping them feel seen, supported, and successful at school. I’m also here as a resource for our families and staff—my door is always open!
How Can I Help?
As an elementary school counselor, I support students with their academic, social, emotional, and college/career development. Some of the ways I support our students include:
- Classroom guidance lessons
- Individual check-ins and short-term counseling
- Small group counseling
- Friendship and conflict-resolution skills
- Coping skills and managing big emotions
- Goal setting and problem-solving
- School transitions and academic concerns
- College and career awareness
- Family, teacher, and community collaboration
When Should You Reach Out?
Children sometimes experience challenges that can make it difficult to learn or feel their best at school. This may include friendship concerns, family changes, grief, worries, stress, big emotions, school adjustment, or academic concerns.
Students can ask to meet with me, or parents/guardians, teachers, and staff may reach out on their behalf.
School counseling provides short-term, school-based support and is not a replacement for long-term therapy. When additional support is needed, I’m happy to help families connect with appropriate community resources.
I’m Here to Help!
Please reach out with any questions or concerns you may have. No question is too small, and if I can help, I want to!
